    BROOKSVILLE — When the Hernando County School Board gathered last week for a retreat at a gated community, it was required by state law to notify the public of the event, said Barbara Petersen, president of the Tallahassee-based First Amendment Foundation.

    It didn't.

    Recent moves by  superinten­dent Lori Romano have also raised transparency questions.

    SPRING HILL — It can be really nice to curl up in a comfy chair and read a book, and Spring Hill Elementary School has recognized this with the creation of the Goodnight Moon reading corner in the school's media center.

    First-graders Dominic Ciccarello, 6, and Crystal Ni, 7, enjoy Spring Hill Elementary's Goodnight Moon reading corner. It is in librarian Susan Timberlake's media center and was created by school volunteer/community member Cindi Sierak.
